A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to the NCT of Delhi to initiate urgent steps for imposing strict lockdown in the state of NCT, Delhi in view of the assessment of the State’s Administration of a widespread increase in COVID 19 cases amongst the population.
The petition has been filed by Advocate Anirban Mondaland his peon Pawan Kumar through Advocates Mridul Chakravarty, Hemant Singh, Chetan Garg and Sreyansh Khemka, who submitted that the people residing and working in the State of NCT of Delhi are facing an unprecedented and far reaching dangerous health emergency in the form of rampant wide spread of the COVID-19 and the spike in the rate of spread of the virus has multiplied manifolds in the past few weeks.
The plea has further urged the Court to form an expert committee, consisting of Doctors, Medical specialists and leading virologists for preparing a detailed blueprint and steps to be taken for controlling and containing the forthcoming spread of the virus.
The plea has alleged that the Government of NCT of Delhi by allowing movement of people and other activities in the State like reopening of public transport, religious places, malls, restaurants/ hotels, 100% of the market places, government/ private offices with 100% work force, etc. has led to a sharp rise in numbers of the daily cases of COVID-19.
The petitioners thus submitted that resources of the State, as of right now should not be on the economic aspects, but on health and safety of its people.
