Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders were granted bail by Patiala House Court in the criminal defamation case filed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. The court has fixed May 19 as the next date of hearing when charges will be framed.
Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Kumar Vishwas, Raghav Chaddha, and Deepak Bajpayee are the other five AAP members who were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 20000 each.
Kejriwal and the other five AAP leaders have been sued by Jaitley, who has demanded Rs 10 crore as damages for giving false and defamatory statements against him and his family members in connection with the alleged corruption in Delhi District Cricket Association(DDCA) when it was headed by the FM.
While Jaitley denied all allegations levelled by Kejriwal, the Delhi CM on his part called the defamatory suit a “classic case of political vendetta”, with harassment and curbing of free speech being the main objectives.
Ahead of the hearing, BJP and AAP workers clashed outside the court premises today.
