Delhi HC refuses to hear plea against ‘illegal’ slaughter of animals

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today refused to hear a petition seeking directions to take action against ‘illegal’ slaughtering of animals by ‘certain persons’ on the occasion of Bakr Eid every year.

A bench of the Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, while hearing the matter through video conferencing, told the authorities that if they do get any report from the petitioner on this issue, they should take a decision as soon as possible in accordance with the applicable law, rules and government policies.

The petitioner had contended that due to this practice the pollution in the Yamuna river is increasing. Along with this, the petition sought instructions for the authorities to take action against those who violate the rules.

The petitioner has referred to one advertisement in the petition for slaughtering of big animals on the occasion of Bakr Eid and said “no slaughtering is permissible without holding the valid license as issued by the corporation.”
