A petition has been filed in the Rajasthan High Court seeking to stop the payment of salaries, allowances and other benefits of those MLAs who have been staying at hotels for the last two weeks amid the political crisis in the state.
The petition filed by Vivek Singh Jadaun states that the political rivalry between the two leaders belonging to the same political party was leading to wastage of public money.
The petitioner has further been submitted: “Those MLAs who are staying in the Fairmont Hotel and 19 other MLAs, who are staying in the other unknown hotels for last two weeks and they are not in touch with the public and are getting their salary, monthly allowances and other benefits is not justified, hence their monthly allowance and others benefits and payments should be stopped and not to be given to them as it is the sheer wastage of public money.”
The petitioner has further pointed out that since the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly is not in session, the MLAs have lost public connection and were not discharging their duty as per their oath to discharge duty as elected members of the legislative assembly. Hence in such a case when the MLAs were staying at hotels, no salary, allowance and other benefits should be given to them.
Pursuant to differences between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot leading to political crisis in the state, MLAs have been lodged at Jaipur’s Fairmont Hotel.
