Bombay High Court has allowed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to conduct an IPL match in Pune on May 1st. Due to alarming situation pertaining to water shortage and drought in Maharashtra, Court had banned all IPL matches to be conducted in the state. This verdict was announced on April 13th, and BCCI was given 15 days to make appropriate arrangements.
Bench comprising of Justice V M Kanade and Justice M S Karnik allowed the IPL match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians which was scheduled for May 1 at Pune MCA stadium. Senior Counsel Rafiq Dada who is representing BCCI has petitioned the court for allowing this match citing logistical reasons.

The petition was filed on April 16th, and the argument was that as Pune will play Gujarat Lions on April 29th and then were scheduled to play Mumbai Indians on May 1st. Hence, as per the petition, it was impossible for BCCI to reschedule the match within such short notice period.
In the order, the court scolded Maharashtra Govt., as it said, “We are disturbed by the stand taken by the State”, adding, “Can the State turn a blind eye towards the scarcity of water?”
