Continue to arrange for admissions of orphans to schools: Delhi HC tells govt

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked the AAP government to continue with its welfare schemes, including arranging for the admission of orphan children to private as well as in government schools and also for their employment. The court was reacting to a plea seeking that the government’s schemes for education, living and other prospects of life for orphans should continue.

The bench headed by the Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan noted that 225 orphans have already been given admission in the private and government schools.

The PIL was filed by Harpal Singh Rana also sought a provision for such kids under EWS quota for admission in school and financial assistance to people looking after the orphans.

The court noted that the Government of NCT of Delhi has stated in its status report that orphan children have been granted admission either in the private schools or public schools.

The report further stated that 28 orphans have been provided employment in various sectors, including hospitality, teaching and in non-governmental organizations.
