SC orders immediate stoppage to flattening of hillock in the Aravallis

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Haryana state administration to take immediate action to avoid further damage in respect of flattening of an entire hillock of the Aravallis.

A three judge bench of Justices Arun Mishra, B.R. Gavai and Krishna Murari took a note of a report published in ‘Time of India’ and asked the AAG of Haryana to submit a report after appropriate action was taken.

According to the report, an entire hillock had been flattened in order to construct a road which would connect farmhouses being built in a village called Bandhwari. The entire hillock vanished from this village, which is approximately 1.5 KM off the Gurugram-Faridabad highway, within a period of one year.

During the hearing the AAG of Haryana assured the bench that the state would act to prevent further damage immediately.

The court said that Additional Advocate General Anil Grover, appearing for the state,

“has assured us that the needful will be done to stop further damage today itself in the light of the report that has been published in the Times of India.”

“Let appropriate action be taken and a report be submitted to this court forthwith,” said the bench in its order.

“We direct the district magistrate and police authorities to take appropriate action forthwith, as assured by Anil Grover, AAG.”
