Supreme Court passed an order on a petition to save melting of gold jewelleries used to festoon the elephants on the special occasions in Kerala’s Kochi temple. The apex court stayed the order by temple administration and issued a show cause notice on the move. The petition was filed by Kochi’s royal family in the wake of saving ancient gold headgear, which the temple authorities were melting in order to get gold.
The Royal Family first protested the orders by temple administration to melt traditional and historic gold jewellery, following which they filed a petition in Supreme Court.
Now, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the temple administration seeking reasons behind the melting of jewelleries and ordering a status-quo in this matter.
