New Delhi (ILNS): In a latest development, today the Calcutta High Court ordered that all Durga Puja pandals in the state be declared no-entry zones. The order further stated that only the organizers can enter pandals, while name of those allowed to enter pandals should be displayed outside it.
It also put a cap on the number of organisers allowed inside: 25 for big pandals and 15 for the smaller ones.
This decision came in wake of the Corona pandemic, keeping in mind the public safety. Durga Puja celebrations will begin on October 22. All 37,000 registered puja committees will come under this order.
On Friday the Calcutta High Court had upheld the state government’s notification which provided for disbursement of Rs 50,000 to each of the organizing committees for Durga Puja in the state, making it clear that 75 percent of the funds should be used for the procurement of masks, hand sanitizers, face shields etc for use in and around the puja pandals.

The Calcutta High Court today slammed the West Bengal government for having no clear crowd control strategy amid the Coronavirus outbreak and said that it is disappointing that the state did not come up with a plan to implement the guidelines issued by them in regards to the celebrations of Durg Puja.
