New Delhi (ILNS): The Supreme Court of India today dismissed a plea filed by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), seeking 50 percent reservation for OBC candidates in medical and dental college admissions.
A bench headed by Justice L. Nageswara Rao in its judgment dismissed the plea challenging the decision of the Central government of not allowing 50 percent quota in medical and dental colleges in the Tamil Nadu state-run institutions.
Earlier, the Supreme Court directed the petitioner to seek relief from the high court on the issue, whereas, the Madras High Court had directed the central government to form a committee and take decisions on the issue.
However, the bench had further directed that the changes in the reservation will not be applicable to the current academic year.
