New Delhi (ILNS): The Supreme Court today allowed Rajiv Gandhi Assassination convicts AG Perarivalan an extension of a week of his parole, to visit the hospital of his choice. The court also said that no further extension will be allowed. Perarivalan has sought this parole for medical reasons.
Perarivalan has also appealed to the Tamil Nadu Governor for remission of sentence. The CBI has informed the Justice L. Nageswara Rao & Justice S. Ravindra Bhat that it has no role in it as the issue is between the Tamil Nadu Governor and the convict.
The Apex Court had ob November 23 extended the parole of Perarivalan by a week.
Today, Mr. Balaji Srinivasan, counsel for the State, submits that an application filed for extension of parole was disposed of by the Madras High Court on 06.11.2020 by giving two weeks’ time and directing the petitioner not to seek any further extension. He submits that CMC Vellore is only 25 kilometers away from the jail in which the petitioner is lodged and in case of any medical necessity, the petitioner shall be taken to CMC Vellore.
The Court ordered, “In view of the submissions made by Mr. Gopal Sankaranarayanan, learned senior counsel appearing for the petitioner and Mr. Balaji Srinivasan, learned counsel for the State, we extend the parole of the petitioner by another week from today and it is needless to state that the State of Tamil Nadu shall provide necessary police escort to visit the hospital of his choice. No further application shall be entertained for extension.”
