Anti-conversion arrest: Sessions court directs release of woman

The Session Court in Moradabad District has directed authorities to send Pinki, the pregnant woman whose husband and brother-in-law have been arrested under the anti-conversion law, to her in-laws house from the Nari Niketan Conservation Home in Moradabad.

The 22-year-old woman was produced before a magistrate on Monday, where she said she is an adult and submitted that she had married Rashid, a Muslim youth, of her own will. She submitted that she had married him on July 24 this year in Dehradun. Pinki demanded the administration release her husband and brother-in-law.

Earlier, she had been admitted to the District Women’s Hospital after her condition worsened, where doctors said she is 3-months pregnant. She was taken to the hospital after complaining of stomach ache.

Pinki claimed she was tortured at the Nari Niketan Home. Despite having abdominal pain for three days, authorities did not take her to the doctor and she was rushed to the hospital when her health worsened.

She said that she was given an injection on December 11, which was followed by mild bleeding, four days later she was given four injections and medicines, after which her health worsened and bleeding also occurred.

Earlier, there were reports that she had been forced into having a miscarriage in the media, which the Moradabad district administration dismissed as fake news. Moradabad District Probation Officer Rajesh Chandra Gupta said she was taken to the hospital after her health deteriorated, after which she recovered.

Pinki and her husband Rashid had gone to register their marriage, when Bajrang Dal activists caught them and handed them over to Kanth police station. After this, the police sent her to Nari Niketan and her husband and brother-in-law were sent to jail on the charge of forced conversion.
