The Delhi High Court has on Wednesday issued a notice in a Public Interest Litigation seeking directions for the payment of long-pending back wages of 116 children, who were victims of bonded labour in the state of Delhi.
A divisional bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan while hearing the petition through video-conferencing said, “We’ll issue notice or you want it to be considered as a representation before the authorities.”
The petition has been filed by Kaum Faqeer Shah, the father of one of the surviving children, through his advocate Kirti Awasthi beyond his personal relief of recovering due back wages of his child, sought directions for the recovery of the back wages of his child and the other victims of child bonded labour.
Shah has drawn the attention of the Court towards the other similarly placed victims of bonded labour in Delhi, who are yet to receive back wages in spite of having been identified as bonded labourers and receiving their release certificates.
The counsel for the petitioner chose for the option of issuing notice as they have already written several times to the authorities in this regards.

The bench has orally asked the counsel appearing for the respondent authorities to try clearing the issue before the date of the next hearing and listed the matter for January 22.
