The Delhi High Court has extended the interim bail of Sanjay Chandra, the promoter of Unitech Housing Project, till January 21.
A single bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru passed this order while hearing a Interim Bail Application filed by Sanjay Chandra.
The court has taken this decision in view of his health condition. Home buyer have been in jail for the past several years for fraud.
Mr. Mathur, Senior Counsel appearing for the applicant submitted that the applicant was granted interim bail on medical grounds in terms of the order December 03, 2020.
He submitted that the medical condition of the applicant continues to be dismal. As noted in the order December 03, 2020 the applicant is at a risk of complications because of co-morbidities.
The court said that the bail period of all the prisoners released on interim bail is being extended. On behalf of Chandra, Advocate Mohit Mathur said that his health was poor. He demanded extension of Chandra’s interim bail for 45 days.
He said that Chandra’s interim bail was refused by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Sessions Judge after which he approached the High Court.
Sanjay Chandra was arrested on the night of March 31, 2017 by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police on charges of financial irregularities. The Police arrested him under sections 420, 406 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
There are allegations against him that he was wrongly investing one project’s funds in another project. Sanjay Chandra was arrested following a complaint by investors.
