Delhi HC warns authorities of contempt action if web of wires in Chandni Chowk not removed

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday said it may initiate contempt proceedings against the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, and BSES Delhi if they failed to remove hanging wires and cables in Chandni Chowk.

A divisional bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rekha Palli noted,

“All service providers shall ensure compliance failing which we will be compelled to initiate contempt action.”

The bench was hearing a plea regarding the beautification of Chandni Chowk in which the order has been passed after the report on Inspection of Redevelopment Project of Chandni Chowk dated December 28.

The report raised concerns over timelines not being adhered by PWD, enforced by Delhi Police and North DMC on various issues including encroachment, illegal vending, illegal loading/ unloading, illegal parking, etc.
