The Delhi High Court has directed Counsel for the Delhi Government, South, East and North Delhi Municipal Corporation, to seek instructions and file an affidavit on the plea seeking direction to provide cashless medical services to retired teachers and employees of three Municipal Corporations of Delhi, who have paid the subscription fees.
Hearing the PIL through video conferencing, a divisional bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh raised the issue before the respondents, “You do not have a live contract with the hospitals and you have taken subscription?”
The petition has been filed by Akhil Dilli Prathmik Shikshak Sangh and Giri Raj Sharma alleging that
“under MCD, the retired employees are being forced to spend their own money and thereafter run from pillar to post to get the reimbursement of money.”
The counsel for the North Delhi Municipal Corporation submitted that they are short of funds, and due to the paucity of funds, are unable to make the payment.
Whereas, the bench said that otherwise everybody of you submit the money here and we’ll make the payment, we need a solution.
The bench further asked the petitioner to point out who have retired in December and how much they have paid?

The bench has directed the respondents to seek instructions, file affidavit signed by an officer, not below the rank of IAS and has listed the matter for further hearing on January 22.
