Covid-19: Summer vacation for Delhi district courts brought forward

In view of the alarming rise of Covid 19 in the capital, the Delhi High Court on Friday advanced the summer vacation for all the district courts in the capital.

Manoj Jain, Registrar General of the Delhi High Court published the office order. “In view of the alarming rise in the number of Covid-19 cases and its consequent toll on the health and lives of the judicial officers and staff of the district judiciary, the Hon’ble Full Court has been pleased to advance the Summer Vacation for the District Courts in Delhi for 2021 and order that the District Courts (except the Courts of Metropolitan Magistrates) in Delhi will remain closed for Summer Vacation from Monday, May 17, 2021 to Thursday, June 3, 2021 (both days inclusive),” the order said.

The period of 30 days from May 17, 2021 to June 15, 2021 has been declared as vacation month/period for 2021 for members of Delhi Judicial Service under the Delhi Judicial Service (Leave) Rules, 2011.

It has been stated that the Courts presided over by the officers of Delhi Judicial Service (except the Courts of Metropolitan Magistrates) shall remain closed for Summer Vacation from May 17, 2021 to June 3, 2021 (both days inclusive) and the Courts of Metropolitan Magistrates shall remain closed for Summer Vacation from May 17, 2021 to May 27, 2021 (both days inclusive).

In continuation of the Court’s Office Order dated April 23, 2021 it is further ordered that the cases listed between May 17, 2021 to June 03, 2021 shall be taken up from June 14, 2021 to June 30, 2021 on the corresponding working days and the existing system of hearing the matters in the District Courts in Delhi shall continue upto June 30, 2021.

“All the Principal District and Sessions Judges and Principal Judges (Family Court) shall ensure that bare minimum staff is called physically and that the majority of the staff officials mandatorily work from home, till the time the situation becomes normal,”  the order reads.
