The Delhi High Court will today take up the petition filed by the Bar Council of Delhi, seeking certain prayers in respect of the Chief Minister’s Advocates Welfare Scheme, 2020.
(Bar Council of Delhi vs the Government of NCT of Delhi)
The plea, to be taken up by the single-judge bench of Justice Prathibha M Singh, submitted that after opening of the financial bids, the insurance companies have substantially increased the amount of premium and reneged on their earlier quotations given in November/December, 2019.
The premium, which the insurance companies are now demanding, is almost double for both – the group insurance policy and the medi-claim policy, it said.

This Court is of the opinion that this sudden increase in the premium within a matter of eight months is very steep. The Chief Minister’s Advocates Welfare Scheme would be completely defeated at this rate. The rates quoted by the New India Assurance Company (NIAC) and LIC.
