NHRC issues notice to UP government on condition of hospitals and crematoriums in Gautam Buddha Nagar

NHRC team visited various hospitals and crematorium in Gautam Buddha Nagar

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, seeking action taken report on the condition of hospitals and crematorium in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

Taking cognisance of a complaint received on April 29, 2021, as well as took of media reports that District Authorities of Gautam Buddha Nagar failed to support the residents with necessary information and infrastructure support during April-May 2021, an NHRC team led by Member Jyotika Kalra, visited the hospitals and crematorium in Gautam Buddha Nagar on June 25.

During the visit, the team interacted with the District Magistrate, the Additional District Magistrate, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Chief Medical Officer of GB Nagar.

A questionnaire for the District Magistrate, Hospital Administration and Commissioner of Police, Gautam Budha Nagar was sent in advance before the visit.

The rights body sought information from the state government on hoarding and black-marketing of essential medicines, oxygen cylinders and concentrators, registration of death, and functioning of crematoriums and ambulance services.

The team asked the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh to take corrective measures, ensuring better health care of the citizens. The Chief Secretary was asked to submit an action taken report on the following recommendations of the Commission:

• A standardised cost of treatment be made available to the residents;
• The District website should have a detailed list of all hospitals;
• A standardised treatment protocol be developed and be periodically reviewed, State Govt. to evolve a policy on in-house oxygen plants;
• Contractual staff’s medical expenses be reimbursed and their lives be insured;
• Hoarding/black marketing of essential medicines be checked on a regular basis;
• Ayushman Bharat scheme needs to be revisited to ensure maximum benefits.
• More Ambulances & Hearse Vans be provided.
