Madras High Court pulls up actor Dhanush for seeking partial tax exemption on imported Rolls Royce

Justice S M Subramaniam also pulled up the 38-year-old for not disclosing his profession in his petition and directed him to explain the same on Friday.

The Madras High Court on Thursday came down heavily on national award winning actor Dhanush, also the son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, for seeking partial tax exemption on his imported Rolls-Royce Ghost car.

The Single-Judge Bench of Justice S M Subramaniam also pulled up the 38-year-old for not disclosing his profession in his petition and directed him to explain the same on Friday.

The Court said, “Actors should act as responsible citizens and should not ply their cars without paying taxes fully.”

The case dates back to 2015, when the actor had paid half of the entry tax, amounting to more than Rs 30 lakh, and moved the Court against the remaining amount. However today, the 38-year-old agreed to pay the remaining amount, as well as withdraw the case.
