Supreme Court Collegium proposes elevation of 4 advocates as judges in Kerala High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the proposal for elevation of four Advocates as judges in the Kerala High Court.

The Collegium, in its meeting held on September 1, 2021, approved the names of Shoba Annamma Eapen, Sanjeetha Kalloor Arakkal, Basant Balaji and Aravinda Kumar Babu Thavarakkattil as judges in the Kerala High Court. 

It also recommended the names of four judicial officers, including C. Jayachandran, Sophy Thomas, P.G. Ajithkumar and C.S. Sudha, as Judges in the Kerala High Court. 

The Kerala High Court has a sanctioned strength of 47 judges (35 permanent judges and 12 additional judges). Established on November 1, 1956, the Kerala High Court stands at the head of the judicial administration of the State of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

According to the list of judges by the Department of Justice, Ministry, as on September 1, 2021, there are currently 28 sitting judges (permanent) and 9 additional judges at Kerala High Court.

After the approval of recommended strength, the Kerala High Court will have 55 sitting judges.
