The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a petition filed by Abdul Nasser Mahdani, a key accused in 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts case, to be shifted to his home state Kerala, instead of staying under surveillance in Bengaluru.
The Division Bench of Justice S. Abdul Nazeer and Justice Krishna Murari passed this order, while accepting the submission of the state government of Karnataka that the case was pending and some witnesses should be re-examined.
Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan appeared on behalf of Kerala PDP chief. He argued that instead of being under observation in Bangalore, Mahdani should be allowed to stay in his home state of Kerala.
At the same time, it was also said that permission to stay in Kerala should be given only on the conditions imposed for permission to stay in Bangalore.

Mahdani is an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts. The accused has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking permission to go to Kerala, citing health reasons and the Novel Coronavirus epidemic.
In a July 2014 order, the Supreme Court had ruled that Mahdani could remain on bail until the trial in the Bangalore blast case is completed.
