The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) will launch a six-week campaign from October 2 to November 14, to spread awareness among the people living in far-flung areas of the country, about the functioning of legal services and institutions, availability of free legal services, their legal rights and entitlements guaranteed under the constitution as well as other welfare legislations
In a statement issued here, NALSA said the national event will be launched by President Ram Nath Kovind at 1100 hrs from Vigyan Bhavan, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Under the visionary leadership of Chief Justice of India and Patron-in-Chief, NALSA, Justice N.V. Ramana and Executive Chairman Justice U.U. Lalit, NALSA conceptualised this pan-India Awareness and Outreach Campaign. This year, India is also celebrating 75th year of independence as “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. NALSA is also celebrating 25 years of its inception, said the statement.
The programme will witness the august presence of Chief Justice of India and Patron-in-Chief of NALSA, Justice N.V. Ramana, Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju, Executive Chairman of NALSA Justice U.U. Lalit, Judges of Supreme Court and the High Courts and other esteemed dignitaries.
The Pan India Awareness and Outreach Campaign has been devised to empower the masses through education, particularly for the people living in rural, tribal and remote areas, about legal services and entitlements guaranteed under the Constitution, as well as other welfare legislations.
During the campaign, the Legal Services Authorities across the country will reach each and every village of the country through its workforce and ensure that every corner of the state feels the presence of Legal Services and Institutions. During the campaign, legal aid volunteers will reach all 6.7 lakh villages and over 4,100 municipal towns of the country. NALSA has also directed all States/Districts/Taluks legal service bodies (nearly 3000) to organise Prabhat Pheri in the morning of the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The programme will be streamed live on NALSA YouTube Channel and on DD National, DD News and other Channels, to ensure maximum outreach to the citizens of the country. The event will also be screened live in all the Taluks and Districts Headquarters, including remotely placed court campuses by the Legal Services Authorities.
