As part of the ongoing pan India campaign, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit inaugurated a mega legal services camp at Kanyakumari, which was hosted by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority in association with the local District Administration.
The inauguration commenced with Justice Lalit flagging off 5 mobile vans, which would travel through various parts of Tamil Nadu and would spread awareness about legal services that are made available to common people by the legal services institutions.
Speaking at the occasion, Justice Lalit said that the pandemic has not dampened the spirits of the legal services institutions and that the pandemic has rather lifted our spirits to render more and better services.
As a result of the pandemic, there are large numbers of victims, who have actually faced the brunt of the situation. However, the Legal Services Institutions have a large number of committed para-legal volunteers, when it comes to extending legal aid. People don’t know about its existence. Hence, spreading legal awareness becomes a critical part of rendering legal services. It is only with this intent that the NALSA mooted the idea of the pan-India Legal Awareness Campaign.
Earlier during the ceremony, justice UU Lalit awarded the copy of collector’s sanction order for earmarking a piece of land as a burial site to a group of transgender, who had already petitioned the legal services authority during the pan India campaign seeking the establishment of the burial site in their locality.
During the camp, 26 children orphaned during the pandemic were Rs. 3 lakh each. The disability certificates were distributed to more than 50 differently-abled persons. Five motorised vehicles designed for the use of differently-abled persons were also handed over to beneficiaries. Thirty crop insurance benefits were also given and the widow of a fisherman, who lost his life in high sea received 3 lakhs.
