A letter to Rajasthan CM demands FIRs lodged be acted upon so that justice prevails

The brutal attack on a cattle farmer Pehlu Khan at Behror in the Alwar district of Rajasthan on April 1, in which he was mercilessly beaten to death by cow vigilantes for transporting milch cows he had bought for his dairy, has generated intense anger among sane citizens. Now this disapproval has spread to former senior IAS luminaries, who have written a letter to Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, demanding justice for Khan and his family.

The letter which clearly states they are disturbed, demands: “…that the FIRs registered in regard to this incident and the dying statement of Pehlu Khan be acted on decisively. The culprits must be arrested to restore the faith of the victims’ families and their communities in the system of justice in the country.”

Khan died of his injuries a few days after the shameful and horrific incident that has not only shaken up the basic fabric of the country but also has reverberations from across the world.

Khan and four of his workers on the truck carrying the cows had all the necessary documentation which proved that there was no relation with his act to possible cow slaughter and that he had bought the cows from a cattle fair for his dairy farm. The attackers were not interested in hearing anything about this.

This is the first time that a set of top-notch former administrative people has come out in protest of an act on which the government hasn’t even bothered to act.
