In view of the opposition by lawyers of the High Court, the Allahabad High Court has withdrawn its decision to hear cases virtually in view of rising cases of Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh both at its principal seat at Allahabad and at the Lucknow Bench.
From January 4 onwards, there will be an option for physical hearing along with virtual hearing in the court. Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Rajesh Bindal withdrew the order.
It is pertinent to note that as Covid-19 cases record an alarming rise in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court had on January 3 decided to function in virtual mode, both at Prayagraj and Lucknow. On Sunday, in an emergency meeting of the administrative committee of the High Court headed by the Chief Justice had decided to revert to the virtual mode for hearing cases.
The Apex Court and various High Courts have already switched to virtual or hybrid hearing in view of the spike in Covid-19 cases and the Omicron variant of the virus. Due to the rise in cases of Covid-19, several high courts across the country have decided to go for a virtual hearing of cases from Monday.

From January 3, the Calcutta High Court decided to hear cases through virtual mode. On December 30, the Delhi High Court had decided to revert to a full virtual hearing from January 3 until January 15 in view of the spurt in Covid-19 cases and the consequent ‘yellow alert’ declared by the government in the national capital.
The principal seat of Bombay High Court in Mumbai has decided to hear matters through hybrid mode with effect from January 4, 2022, until further orders.
