The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide necessary information on the PIL alleging large-scale financial irregularities in the Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj in 2019.
The Division Bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Sameer Jain passed this order while hearing a PIL filed by Tanmay Chatterjee.
The petitioner through the PIL has raised certain questions with regard to the expenditure made during Kumbh Mela 2019 and the audit objections with regard thereto raised by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
Manish Goyal submitted that the report has to be tabled before the appropriate legislature therefore, he may be given time to seek instructions whether the audit report has been tabled before the State Legislature or not.

“For the said purpose, Manish Goyal prayed for and the Court allowed three weeks time to seek written instructions. In the meantime, the petitioner may also properly describe the respondents in the array of the parties,”

The Court has fixed the next hearing of the petition on February 15, 2022.
