Former cricketer, comedy king and now Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu can continue on comedy television shows and also appear in advertisement campaigns. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has allowed him to do so, with a caveat that he should behave in a proper manner, as “suited to a politician with a huge fan following.”

The court said on May 11 that there were no statutes preventing him from carrying on his work outside his ministerial duties, even if he was earning from both. The court was judging on a PIL filed by Chandigarh advocate Hari Chand Arora.

As per published reports, the court has observed: “Lakhs of people follow the example set by ministers, and public conduct of ministers is being watched.” It said the court cannot do “moral policing of politicians. After all, they are elected representatives. We may agree, but how do we legally enforce it?”
