A petition has been filed in Allahabad High Court seeking to restore the Imambara Ghulam Haider, which was demolished under the Samajwadi Party government, located in the chowk of Prayagraj city.
In a petition filed by Syed Shabbir Shaukat Abidi, President of Asar Foundation, action has been sought against officials responsible for the matter.
In the petition, the court has been informed that the then chairman of the Waqf Board, Waseem Rizvi, demolished the Imambara at Prayagraj’s Chowk and built commercial buildings there. An inquiry was conducted on this through a high level committee. There were many big revelations in the case.
The investigation found that the property of Meerut Waqf was sold to fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya and a liquor factory was set up. A FIR has been registered against the Waqf Minister and the Chairman in the matter. CBCID is investigating the matter. Due to political influence, action was not taken against those responsible.
Commercial buildings were demolished after investigation on the opposition of religious leaders and community, but the 200-year-old Imambara was not restored. The petitioner has demanded restoration of the Imambara before the court and action against the culprits in the case.
