The Delhi High Court on Thursday agreed to hear a batch of petitions on May 17, pertaining to the demand for recognition of same-sex marriage
A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla will also take a decision whether live streaming of the proceedings should be there.
The court has been hearing a number of petitions filed by s same-sex couples, who are looking for a declaration that recognises their marriages under the special, Hindu and foreign marriage laws.
The petition was earlier opposed by the Central on the pretext that inspite of decriminalisation of homosexuality under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, there has been no fundamental right of same-sex marriage.
It also said that in solemnizing or registering such marriages has more ramifications than just a simple legal recognition.

The major reason given in this case is that living together as married partners and having sexual relationship with the same sex individuals [which is decriminalised now] is no where near to the conventional Indian family unit concept of a wife, husband and their biological kids.
The Delhi HC has given Centre two weeks to respond to the application seeking live streaming of the proceedings on the petitions filed by same-sex couples. The petitioners in the plea said that this is an important decision which can affect about 8percent of India’s population and thus should be allowed to live stream so that everyone can hear it.
