The Supreme Court Bar association (SCBA) on Tuesday organised a farewell for Supeme Court judge Justice Vineet Saran who retired today.
The event, organised at C Block Auditorium of New Additional Building in Pragati Maidan, became the first farewell function organised by SCBA in the auditorium.
The function was presided over by Justice N.V. Ramana, the Chief Justice of India.
SCBA President Vikas Singh and SCBA Vice-President Pradeep Rai, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai started his speech by thanking the CJI for providing the auditorium of the new building for the event.
In the same breath, he thanked Justice Saran, stating that if it was not for his retirement, the Bar would not gave got this opportunity to conduct an event in the Auditorium.
The SCBA V-P said he had the good fortune of knowing Justice Saran for more than two decades.
Apart from being an eminent jurist and a judge with profound knowledge of law, Justice Saran is a thorough gentleman, a friend for a lifetime and a great human being.
Rai said Justice Saran has many facets to his personality, which a few people know about. He plays sports like golf and tennis, loves to go on long drives and is an avid traveller.
“I have seen his growth, from being Justice in various High Courts, including Allahabad and Gujarat, to reaching the Apex Court with grace and wisdom, excelling in everything. Justice Saran leaves behind a great legacy of clever arguments and brilliant judgements, delivered with ease,” noted Rai.
He said Justice Saran always encouraged young lawyers and women advocates. Mostly, people came out of his court with a smile on their lips.
“We will not let you go so soon Sir. You have to make a lot more contribution towards the profession. Your efforts towards making justice accessible to all, will always be appreciated,” added Pradeep Rai.
He also revealed that Justice Saran will celebrate his birthday tomorrow, saying that they will be sending him cakes and greetings.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, SVBA Honorary Secretary Rahul Kaushik, SCBA members, along with the members of the Bar and Bench, were present on the occasion.
