In April last year businessman-sage Baba Ramdev had attended a religious meeting, the Sadbhawana Sammelan, in Rohtak. There he had allegedly announced that if it were not for the rule of law he would have “beheaded” lakhs of people for not saying ‘Bharat mata ki jai’.
Being a “friend” (as he claims) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramdev probably believed he was beyond the law. A Rohtak court has just proved him wrong, issuing a non-bailable warrant against him.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Harish Goyal of the court issued the warrant after the yoga guru and FMCG entrepreneur failed to appear in the court on Wednesday (June 14).
A case was filed with the police by Congress leader and former Haryana minister Subhash Batra. The court had asked the Baba to pay Rs 1 lakh personal surety bond, setting June 14 as the appearance date. The Baba skipped that, resulting in the
non-bailable warrant, as per media reports.
The next hearing is on August 3.
