The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice on a petition challenging the provisions allowing electoral candidates to contest from two Legislative or Parliamentary seats.
A Bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh passed the order on a petition that further sought directions to implement the proposal made by the Election Commission of India that such candidates should bear the cost of bypolls themselves.
The Counsel said during the hearing, “At the time of filing, we weren’t aware that the court is dealing with a similar manner. The Learned AG was asked to assist. Please see.”
The Counsel then went through the details of the connected matter.
The Bench issued notice in the matter, returnable in eight weeks.
