The Gauhati High Court has issued notice on a PIL seeking direction for constitution of State Food Commission, as provided under Section 16 of the National Food Security Act, 2013.
The Kohima Division Bench of Justice Songkhupchung Serto and Justice Kakheto Sema, while considering the PIL, issued notice to the respondents.
The PIL, filed by Michael alias Michael Sunep and others, also sought directions for the Commission so formed, to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Act in relation to the state of Assam.
It further sought direction to place the list of all identified eligible households to receive benefits under the Act in the public domain and to display the same prominently as provided under Section 11 of the same Act.
The matter was listed for next hearing after four weeks.
