Central Government issues notification on appointment of judges in Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Gauhati High Court

The notification has been issued by the Central Government on the appointment of two judges each to the Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Gauhati High Courts.

The website of Department of Law and Justice on Friday, August 12 published a notification to this effect.

The two judicial officers who have cleared for the appointment of judges to the Orissa High Court are

1.Gourishankar Satapathy

2.Chittaranjan Dash.

The two judicial officers who have appointment as additional judges for a period of two years at the Gauhati High Court are:

1.Susmita Phukan Khaund

2.Mitali Thakuria.

The Central government has also notified the appointment of two judicial officers as judges to the Himachal Pradesh High Court

1.Sushil Kukreja 

2.Virender Singh 

Their names were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on July 25, 2022.

The Orissa High Court, has a sanctioned strength of 33 judges, while it is functioning with 22 judges, a vacancy position of 11.

The Gauhati High Court, has a sanctioned strength of 24 judges, and is functioning with 22 judges, a vacancy position of 2.

As on August 1, the Himachal Pradesh High Court was functioning with 9 judge while its sanctioned strength is 17.
