The Delhi High Court on Wednesday laid stress on updating and making the people aware of the existence of special cells that have been created in every district on orders of the Supreme Court to receive complaints related to harassment of inter-caste couples.
This order of Supreme Court will benefit the couples who are afraid and dont know who to approach in problems and harassment due to inter caste weddings.
The Court said that it’s a noble cause, and should not look like an empty formality or paper exercise. Please sensitise people.
The Court says that in many cases, the problems have just begin and if intervention is done t the right time, many unforseen problems can be ended.
The Court said “In case they are at a nascent stage, please activate. It’s the need of the hour. If it is an inter-caste marriage, that needs to be protected,”
Justice Jasmeet Singh said this when he was hearing of petitions filed by NGO Dhanak, of Humanity for ensuring compliance with the SC decision of 2018.
The Court was informed by the police there are about 15 such cells which are currently functioning infor providing protection to people with inter-faith marriage and for receiving petitions and complaints related to the threats or harassment faced by them.
The Court however said that the status report does not indicate the facilities and services provided.
