Hapur attack: Supreme Court to hear Owaisi’s plea against bail to attackers tomorrow

The Supreme Court will hear on September 30, a petition filed by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asadduddin Owaisi, challenging the Allahabad High Court granting bail to two persons, who attacked his convoy in Uttar Pradesh in February this year.

It has been learnt that a two-Judge Bench, headed by Justice M.R. Shah, will take up the plea of Hyderabad MP tomorrow.

One of the accused was arrested within 24 hours of the incident, while the other one surrendered later. They were identified as Shubham, native of Nakur in Saharanpur and Sachin, resident of Badalpur in Gautam Buddh Nagar.

According to police, the accused said they were triggered by the provocative statements made by Owaisi and his party members and decided to attack him.

An FIR for attempt to murder was lodged at Pilakhua Police Station under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 7 of the Criminal Amendment Act.

The accused were remanded to judicial custody. Police said that two pistols were seized from accused, while a car was also impounded in connection with the case.

They were granted bail later by the Allahabad High Court, which has been challenged in the Apex Court by AIMI chief Owaisi.
