The Gauhati High Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed on the issue of deteriorated condition of the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road.
The PIL has been filed by one Lalduhawma Pachuau.
J.C. Lalnunsanga, counsel for the petitioner submitted that despite an Agreement having been made between the State Government and the respondent No. 5 (in charge of Lunglei Town and ATL Road) for maintenance of the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road in the year 2018, the condition of the road has deteriorated to the extent that it has become difficult for School children in various Villages to attend their Schools.
He further submitted that the petitioner had by way of an RTI Application dated 23.08.2022, asked for the Contract Agreement made between the State Government and the respondent No. 5, with regard to the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road. However, no reply has been given to the petitioner’s RTI Application dated 23.08.2022.

On considering the pleadings and the photographs which are annexed to the petition, the Aizawl Division Bench of Justice Michael Zothankhuma and Justice Marli Vankung is of the view that instructions should be taken by the counsel for the State Government, with regard to the condition of the Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road.
