Delhi High Court stays notice prescribing new dress code for law interns by Shahdara Bar Association

The Delhi High Court has put a stay on the recent resolution which was passed by the Delhi’s Shahdara Bar Association (SBA) which  prescribed a dress code for law interns.

The Shahdara Bar association in its resolution of November 24 which restricted the new interns from wearing black coat in the court of Karkardoma.

The Association infact decided on a white shirt ,blue coat and trousers to make them look different from the lawyers.

A second year law student challenged this before the Highcourt.

The single judge Justice Prathiba M Singh asked the Bar Council of Delhi to hold a meeting involving the bar associations in Delhi and other stakeholders to decide as to what  uniform law interns should wear.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has also been asked to join the meeting.

“The Court said that with the large number of interns ,there needs to be a uniform policy with the consent of all the stakeholders.

She also added that there should be a fixed consistent uniform which is decided mutually as prescribing different uniforms shall not be convenient for the interns will be inconvenienced.

The SBA in its resolution had said that interns will not be allowed to attend courts of they fail to adhere to the prescribed dress code.
