The Supreme Court will not have a vacation bench this winter break but has appointed a vacation officer of the Registry for urgent matters.
The designated officer can be approached and if required, the Bench will be constituted.
Earlier on Friday, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud said no vacation bench will conduct hearings during the upcoming Winter break of the Supreme Court.
The CJI said that vacation benches were formed only when the Court went for longer breaks such as during summers in May and June. However, the practice would not be followed during the Winter break in December, he added.
Justice Chandrachud further announced that no Supreme Court Bench would sit between December 17 and January 2, 2023.
Any advocate seeking relief in urgent matters shall first approach the deputed senior Registry officer, who after screening the papers, shall seek directions from the Competent Authority and thereafter inform the advocate concerned about the directions.
