Punjab and Haryana High Court rejects PIL seeking proper medical facilities at Trauma Centre of Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College

The Punjab and Haryana High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation seeking direction to the respondent authorities to provide proper medical facilities at Trauma Centre in Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College at Nalhar in Mewat.

The PIL has been filed by one Mohammad Arshad.

On the directions issued by the High Court, the latest affidavit has been filed by the Director of the above hospital, wherein he has stated that adequate medical facilities, which are required to be provided in the trauma centre, have been provided by making available the necessary staff in the Departments of Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Surgery, Dental, Emergency, Eye & ENT.

It stated that para-medical staff was available round-the-clock and the emergency medical facilities were also available to provide all possible care facilities to the patient(s). 

It was further stated that the Accident & Emergency Department also works for 24 hours and seven days of the week and all the facilities including ambulance, CT scan, MRI, Mammography, Medico-legal report, First Aid Treatment, Laboratory facilities, Micro biology, Pathology and Biochemistry are also available.

The affidavit further said that a separate blood bank is also available and that the trauma centre is fully functional.

To provide emergent facilities to the patient(s), there are as many as three operation theaters and that total 92230 patients have approached the Trauma Centre for treatment since January, 2020 to December, 2022. Out of them, 88447 patients have been treated and remaining 3783 have been referred to other centres for treatment.

The affidavit further stated that necessary facilities required for trauma centre Level-III are already available in the hospital and therefore, the necessary requirements have been fulfilled by the Government.

Looking to the aforesaid facts duly mentioned in the affidavit, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha and Justice Arun Palli found that no further orders are required to be passed in this petition, which is accordingly disposed of by the High Court, taking the aforesaid affidavit of the Director on record.
