The Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar said that the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CCP) Sonia Gandhi, has alleged that ministers and some constitutional authorities have tried to delegitimize the judiciary, which is inappropriate.
During the general body meeting of the CCP on Sonia Gandhi had said,
A troubling new development is the calculated attempt under way to delegitimise the judiciary. Ministers – and even a high constitutional authority -have been enlisted to making speeches attacking the judiciary on various grounds.
She further said that it is very clear that this is not an effort to provide reasonable suggestions for improvement. Rather, it is an effort to reduce the standing of the judiciary in the eyes of the public.
Stating that his response to Gandhi’s statement was unavoidable, Dhankhar said that while he was delivering his maiden address to the House he said that democracy blossoms and flourishes when its three facets – the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Executive – scrupulously adhere to their domains.
The Vice president added that the sublimity of the doctrine of separation of powers is realised when the legislature, Judiciary and the Executive optimally function in tandem and togetherness, meticulously ensuring scrupulous adherence to respective jurisdictional domain.
He said that the mere thought of delegitimising the judiciary, which is a pillar of democracy, is beyond his contemplation and he requested the leaders to not subject high constitutional offices to ‘partisan stances’.
Dhnakar also said that the statement given by the Chairperson of the UPA for De-legitimising the Judiciary is beyond my contemplation.
He has urged and asked leaders across the political spectrum for bearing in mind not to subject High Constitutional offices to partisan stances.
