A Mumbai court has today remanded the former chief executive officer (CEO) of ICICI Bank Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar and the chairman of the Videocon Group Venugopal Dhoot to judicial custody till January 10, 2023 in the Videocon loan case.
The three of them were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case and were under the CBI custody till today.
The CBI was informed by the special Judge AA Sayed that it was not seeking any further custody of the three accused for interrogation.
The agency has prayed that the accused should be sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
The judge has thus remanded the trio to judicial custody till January 10.
On23 December, the Kochhars couple was arrested in New Delhi and produced before a Special CBI Court in Mumbai on December 24. They were remanded to CBI custody till today.
Dhoot meanwhile was arrested on December 26.
Chanda is accused of cheating and irregularities in relation to a loan of ₹3,250 crore granted in 2012 to the Videocon Group, which became a non-performing asset for the ICICI Bank.
Dhoot meanwhile was arrested in order to confront him along with Kochhars.
The lawyers, appearing for the accused, submitted that mere interrogation and confrontation did not require arrest and custody.
The Kochhars were represented by Senior Advocates Amit Desai and Vikram Chaudhari along with advocate Kushal Mor.
Dhoot was represented by advocate S Laddha.
