Top honours at Supreme Court’s first hackathon bagged by two AoR Devashish Bharuka and Aakarshan Aditya

In the hackathon organised by the Supreme Court on January 7 to improve the registry process of the top court , Advocates Devashish Bharuka and Aakarshan Aditya have been  declared winner and runner-up.

The winner Bharuka as well as the runner up Aditya are both advocates-on-record.

Through an official notification ,the Supreme Court in December, invited suggestions from stakeholders and duty-holders for the first-of-its-kind hackathon which aimed at  improving and refining the existing processes of filing and listing of cases in the Court Registry.

The suggestions and ideas were to be within the ambit of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013.

As per the directions of the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud ,the event had to be organised under the supervision of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, for identifying innovative ideas and to explore practical propositions for refining and bringing in efficiency in the existing process followed by the Registry.

The stakeholders who actively participated in the event included members of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association, law clerks-cum-research assistants, members of the Supreme Court e-committee and the registry of the Supreme Court.

Many many responses were received and a screening-cum-selection committee scrutinised, and selected the eighteen best suggestions and innovative ideas for presentation before and evaluation by judges on Saturday, January 7.

The presentations were held in Annexe building of the Top Court. The presentation ranged from suggestions on e-filing, use of artificial intelligence (AI), simplifying categorisation of cases, use of QR codes for better processing and scrutiny of files, among others.
