Punjab and Haryana High Court disposes a PIL raising linking road issue

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed alleging the respondent authorities not taking any steps to construct and widen the link road from Border Road to village Gokhiwala to Ferozepur and re-carpet the same as it is connected to the main highway Hussainiwala Border Road to Ferozepur Cantt.

PIL also talks about proper upkeep and maintenance of the side of 100 ft. along with the pavement/berm area in spite of the fact that the Gram Panchayat, Gokhiwala, Tehsil and District Ferozepur has filed several representations and also approached the Punjab State Human Rights Commission by filing a complaint which had forwarded the same to the Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur for taking necessary steps.

The PIL has been filed by Kawaljeet Singh and others.

It is submitted that in spite of several legal notices to the respondent authorities, no attention or heed has been paid by them to the petitioners’ grievance. Nor have any steps to re-carpet and widen the road been taken by the respondent authorities.

Avinit Avasthi, Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, submitted that the petitioners’ representation/legal notice dated 02.11.2022  shall be looked into by the respondent-authorities and necessary steps, if so required, would be taken expeditiously in accordance with law.

In view of the aforesaid statement made by State counsel, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha and Justice Arun Palli do not find any reason to entertain the petition which is accordingly disposed of.
