Supreme Court e-Committee to organise Virtual Demo of eSCR Free Judgement search portal tomorrow

The e-Committee of the Supreme Court is organising a Virtual Demo of its eSCR_ Free judgement search portal (eSCR) on February 9.

As per a release issued by the Supreme Court, the Virtual demo will go live on YouTube channel of the e-Court Services India, along with the website of the Apex Court, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm tomorrow.

On January 2 this year, Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud had launched the electronic Supreme Court Reports (e-SCR) project, providing free access to around 34,000 Apex Court judgements for lawyers, law students and the common man.

As per the CJI, starting January 2, all judgements of the Apex Court would be made available online within 24 hours.

The CJI had further said that the Apex Court was introducing neutral citations. The High Courts of Delhi and Kerala already have it, added Justice Chandrachud.

He said a committee comprising three judges – Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi High Court, Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan of the Kerala High Court and Justice Suraj Govindraj of the Karnataka High Court – had been constituted to work on the process of neutral citations.

As per the information available on the court website, e-SCR aimed at providing a digital version of the Apex Court judgments, as they were reported in ‘Supreme Court Reports’, the official law report.

This project endeavoured to take a step forward towards fulfilling the objective of digitisation of the Indian Judiciary for the benefit of litigants, judges, members of the Bar, law colleges and universities, governmental institutions, law clerks and researchers, judicial academies, civic society and the public at large.

The initiative endeavoured facilitating access to the judgments of the Supreme Court, free of subscription or any other expense for the user.

The access link/tab of e-SCR has been provided on the Supreme Court website, the mobile application of the Supreme Court as and on the judgment portal of the eCourts project.

The verdicts were now available on the website of the top court of the country, its mobile app and on the judgment portal of the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG).
