Delhi High Court defers hearing the plea by BJP leader Abhay Verma in Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board

The Delhi High Court has deferred hearing the plea by BJP leader Abhay Verma that seeks directions to the Delhi government for the  reconstitution of the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board.

Abhay Verma who is Member of Legislative Assembly from the Laxmi Nagar constituency area in Delhi. 

The bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad have deferred the  hearing in the matter and listed it for March 1, 2023.

As per the plea the Delhi Government constituted the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board in March 1994 for securing the planned growth of the Trans Yamuna Area and to reduce the disparity in its development as compared to other parts of Delhi.

Abhay Verma was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Laxmi Nagar constituency, which  falls within the precincts of Trans Yamuna and thus had to mandatorily ought to be a member of the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board.

The  plea submitted also states that  as per the annual budget allocation, in the general budget of Delhi, Rs. 100 Crores were allocated annually to the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board, as such each MLA in the trans-Yamuna area is entitled to an additional budget of Rs. 10 Crores annually, to be spent in his constituency, for development work.

It said that unfortunately and for the reasons best known to the respondents, this time the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board has not been constituted; as a result, the funds for the year 2020-21; 2021-2022 could not be utilised.

The plea tells that due to this non-constitution of the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board, infrastructure development in the Trans Yamuna area is lacking.

The plea thus requests that in view of the above, the plea sought reconstitution of the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board “so that the development work in trans-Yamuna area can be properly carried out.
