The Central government has cleared the appointment of two advocates as the additional judges of the Gujarat High Court.
The advocates who have been appointed are:
- Devan Mahendrabhai Desai; and
- Moxa Kiran Thakker.
Ministry of Law & Justice has issued a notification to this effect.
After the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the same on March 2, 2023, the appointments were made in this regard.
As per the Supreme Court collegium, the resolution was passed by the Gujarat High Court Collegium comprising of the then Chief Justice and two senior-most Judges unanimously made the recommendation on September 26, 2022.
It was also mentioned that the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Gujarat had also concurred with the recommendation.
As on March 1, 2023, the Gujarat High Court is functioning with 24 judges against its working strength of 52, a vacancy position of 28
