Bar Associations to refrain from work today demanding speedy investigation in case of lawyer shot dead in Dwarka

The Bar Associations across Delhi have decided to refrain from work today after Advocate Virender Narwal was shot dead in broad daylight.

Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) Chairman and Senior Advocate KK Manan, while speaking to the media, said no work on Monday was to offer condolences and demand speedy investigation in the case.

Advocate Manan said that this is not a protest, but a work to show solidarity with their colleague’s family.

He added that the purpose from abstaining from work was the want for Delhi Police to nab the perpetrators quickly and complete investigation to bring justice to Virender Narwal’s family

Secretary General of the North Delhi Lawyer’s Association, Advocate Vineet Jindal, said the act of killing was an attack on lawyer’s fraternity in Delhi.

Jindal stated that the incidents of threats and violence against lawyers were increasing day-by-day, but no security has been provided to the Advocates or thier families.

Advocate Narwal was shot dead on Saturday by two bike-borne assailants in Dwarka. He practised in the Dwarka court.

According to media reports, police suspected personal enmity, but the investigating agency was yet to make any arrest.

Narwal was provided security cover after an attack on him in 2017. However, it was withdrawn in 2021.

The decision to abstain from work on Monday was taken in a meeting of the Coordination Committee of All the District Bar Associations, Delhi held on Sunday.

The Lawyers desire the government to finally bring in the Advocates Protection Act.
