Delhi Police brings dreaded fugitive criminal Deepak Boxer to India from Mexico

The Delhi Police on Wednesday brought dreaded fugitive criminal Deepak Boxer to India from Mexico, considered as one of the biggest gangsters in Delhi-NCR area.

For the first time in the history of Delhi Police, it managed such a massive, multi-continental and joint police and administrative effort to bring a dangerous fugitive back to India.

As per police, the operation was launched after the Special Cell of Delhi Police received a tip-off about the absconding of wanted criminal and dreaded gangster Deepak Boxer. The dreaded criminal of Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was wanted by Delhi Police in several cases under the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), and relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code related to murder, extortion and threat to life.

Delhi Police said that the initiative was taken by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It said the Union Minister was committed to root out all kinds of interstate and international criminal-terrorist nexus and organisations. He held regular review meetings in this regard with the police and other concerned agencies.

The Home Minister had given specific instructions to the Special Cell and Crime Branch to legally pursue organised criminals and terrorists trying to hide anywhere in the country or abroad and bring them to justice. Arresting the dangerous fugitive criminal Deepak Boxer from Mexico and bringing him to India was a big success in this direction, added the police.

Police said Deepak, a resident of Gannaur in Sonipat of Haryana, had reached Mexico after fleeing India on a fake passport. He had reached the South American continent, after making stops in several countries. His intention behind reaching Mexico was to reach the US with the help of human traffickers where he would join his other associates and from there he would continue to run the activities of his organised crime group in Delhi and neighbouring states, ir added.

Deepak got a fake passport made in the name of Ravi Antil from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh and fled abroad from Kolkata airport in January 2023.

After coordinating with Mexican and FBI officials, Deepak was traced to the beach city of Cancun in Mexico.

The coordinated efforts of Mexican police and FBI agents, Interpol, CBI and Delhi Police resulted in the arrest of Deepak from Mexico and his subsequent deportation to India, it added.
